Harden's Improvements Introduce
For homeowners across Pennsylvania, maintaining the integrity of a property’s exterior is a constant priority, especially given the diverse and often challenging weather conditions experienced throughout the year, from heavy snow and ice to summer storms. The roof and siding are the frontline defenses for any home, and when they need attention—whether for a minor repair or a complete replacement—choosing a reliable, experienced, and local contractor is essential. In the Luzerne County area, including Kingston and the Wyoming Valley, residents often seek out established local businesses for their expertise.
Harden's Improvements is one such contractor, a local business based in Kingston, PA, that identifies as both a Roofing Contractor and a Siding Contractor. This dual designation suggests a specialty in the critical envelope of the home, focusing on the two most important protective layers that shield a home from the elements. Over the years, local businesses like this become woven into the fabric of the community, relying on word-of-mouth and a local reputation to sustain their operation. When searching for services in the area, homeowners prioritize contractors who are readily accessible and intimately familiar with the specific architectural styles and common structural needs of Pennsylvania homes.
It is important for Pennsylvania residents to conduct thorough research when selecting any home improvement company, as the quality of the work directly impacts the value and safety of their property. For a business like Harden's Improvements, its long-standing presence in the area provides local context, but as with all contractors, customers are advised to carefully evaluate recent reviews and business practices to ensure current operational standards meet their expectations for professionalism, material quality, and customer service. Making an informed decision is the foundation of a successful home improvement project in the Commonwealth.

What is Worth Choosing
When evaluating any roofing contractor in the Pennsylvania area, the selection process must be rigorous and focus on current and past performance, transparency, and value. For homeowners considering Harden's Improvements, their local base in Kingston and their stated dual expertise in both roofing and siding are key factors that are typically worth choosing. A contractor with a local physical presence is often more responsive and accountable to the community they serve.
However, it is critically important for any Pennsylvania resident to heed the universally recommended best practices for hiring a contractor. The public reviews associated with Harden's Improvements, while reflecting experiences from specific past customers and including some significant customer disputes regarding pricing, service delivery, and professional communication, underscore the necessity of due diligence. When deciding on any contractor, you should always:
- Obtain a Detailed, Written Estimate: Ensure the quote clearly breaks down all costs, including labor, materials, and potential markups, before any work begins. A trustworthy estimate should leave no room for ambiguity.
- Verify Licensing and Insurance: Always request and verify proof of both liability and worker's compensation insurance to protect yourself from any liability in case of an accident or property damage.
- Ask About and Get a Written Warranty: Confirm the terms of any warranty offered on both materials and workmanship in writing. This protects your investment in the long term.
- Prioritize Clear Communication: Choose a contractor who is responsive, sets clear expectations, and provides regular updates throughout the entire process.
- Compare Multiple Bids: Never rely on a single quote. Comparing a few estimates helps ensure you are receiving fair pricing for the scope and quality of the work being performed.
In conclusion, Harden's Improvements offers the local presence and dual specialty in roofing and siding that many Luzerne County homeowners seek. Their accessibility in Kingston is an advantage. However, as with all significant home investments, choosing this or any contractor requires diligent research, clear contractual agreements, and an unwavering commitment to transparency and professionalism to ensure a successful outcome for your home improvement project.

Harden's Improvements Reviews
Dishonest, price gauging. Aug 1, 2022 Clint Harden looked at my roof to repair a small leak in corner of sunporch. After 5 minutes he said he could fix it but the materials would be the most costly. He gave me a price of $800 which included materials and about 2 hours labor. He and 2 workers arrived the next day. After 15 minutes they were done and removing the ladder. They took half of the roll of tape back to the truck. I asked if that was the balance of the 50 foot roll and he said yes, but I was only being charged for half or 25 feet. He told me materials cost about $370. I then complained that would mean over $400 for 15 minutes work by 3 people was extreme and ridiculously high. He stated that he had to get the materials, (2.6 miles), pay his employees, pay for insurance, etc. and I was getting a 5 year warranty for materials and labor. I reluctantly paid him. Two days later a scrap piece of the material blew down on my deck from the roof. I took it to the supply company he purchased it from and they informed me that a 50 foot roll would cost me $130 which included sales tax. 25 feet would be $65, which equates to a 580% markup on materials and also over $400 labor. I called and complained again to Clint and he stated that was the price we agreed to and would not consider any amount of a refund. I would never recommend this company to anyone. It is horrible that there are people who take advantage of others who believe what they are told by what you believe is a reputable company. Obviously they are not. Very disappointing.
August 13 · Kathy TkaczykI was shocked? I have dealt with Jim Harden for years. In 2016 I paid him $4000 to repair the roofand 2018 $250 to do something. And we paid for another repair before 2016. The chimney came down and I called him right away. His wife answered and said she would tell him. I also spoke to both sons. And after a while a leak developed. I called them and no answer. I finally gave up and had someone else fix it.I called up to complain on Good Friday 2019 and Mrs. Harden picked up the line. I was in the middle of leaving a message. She picked up and said that it took 3 months to pay the last bill. What she didn’t realize was that the last bill accomplished nothing. The leak persisted and Mr. Harden said it is coming from inside the chimney. But we still paid the $250. If the leak was coming from inside the chimney what did I pay $250 for? After about 2 or 3 calls she complained about dog poop being in the yard. I was not aware of the issue but there was a new tenant living there. I am sure there was no dog poop. I also offered condolences that Mr. Harden had passed away in 2018. Then the topper was we were next on the list for Holy Saturday, but go find someone else. The problem I have is that if she could not handle the leak, she should have told me a month ago and I would have found someone else to fix the leak.I thought she was very spiteful and not professional. I found someone to fix the leak on Holy Saturday. I called and they had it fixed in 48 hours. When you have a leak you expect it to be fixed in a reasonable time. If not you should be told otherwise. If you want it done fast, call someone else. If you want answers call someone else.My opinionDr. Phil Taverna
