Patriot Roofing Introduce
Introduction / Overview
Choosing a roofing contractor in Massachusetts is one of the most significant decisions a homeowner can make. The roof protects your entire investment from New England's unpredictable weather, and local regulations are in place—including mandatory licensing and building permits—to safeguard consumers. When seeking a company to handle this critical work, due diligence is not just recommended; it is absolutely essential to protect your property and your financial interests.
Patriot Roofing, based in North Billerica, MA, is a business that homeowners might encounter while researching local options. However, publicly available customer feedback contains severe, repeated concerns that warrant careful consideration by any prospective client. The tone of this article must, therefore, shift from promotional to strictly informational and advisory, ensuring Massachusetts residents are fully aware of the reported issues before entering into any contract.
The core issue reported by multiple customers centers on the critical requirement for proper licensing and the securing of necessary building permits—fundamental legal requirements for home improvement work in the Commonwealth. Reviews explicitly claim that the company failed to obtain a building permit for the work performed and was allegedly not properly licensed, resulting in significant delays, incomplete jobs, and legal complications for the homeowners, including issues when attempting to sell their properties.
Location and Accessibility
Patriot Roofing is geographically situated to serve the Merrimack Valley region and other areas in Northern Massachusetts. Their stated physical location is:
113 Boston Rd, North Billerica, MA 01862, USA
This address places the contractor in a location that provides easy access to Billerica, Lowell, Chelmsford, and the surrounding towns via major local routes, including the primary access point of Boston Road. While the physical location is central, prospective clients are strongly advised to use the provided contact information not just for inquiries, but to rigorously verify all business credentials—namely, current Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor (HIC) registration and Construction Supervisor License (CSL) status—before scheduling an on-site consultation or signing any agreements.
Services Offered
As a roofing contractor, the primary services one would expect from a business like Patriot Roofing would typically include the full scope of residential roofing work. Based solely on the category type, a roofing contractor generally offers:
- Roof Installation
- Roof Repair
- Roof Replacement
- Roof Inspection
- Shingle Roofing Services
However, the available public reviews highlight a major discrepancy between the implied service capacity and the delivered service quality and compliance. Customers have explicitly stated that after receiving payment, the company either completed only a minor portion of the work or failed to complete the project entirely, necessitating the hiring of a second, properly licensed contractor to finish and correct the job. This reported failure to deliver on the fundamental service of completing a paid-for project is the most serious concern for any homeowner considering an engagement.
Features / Highlights (Advisory)
In place of standard promotional highlights, it is necessary to present key advisory points drawn directly from customer experiences to guide Massachusetts residents:
- Critical Licensing Warning: Multiple customer accounts explicitly warn against hiring the company, stating that the contractor was allegedly "NOT PROPERLY LICENSED." In Massachusetts, a licensed contractor is essential to consumer protection and eligibility for state programs like the Guaranty Fund in case of disputes. Homeowners must verify the contractor's Home Improvement Contractor (HIC) registration on the state's official website before signing a contract.
- Building Permit Non-Compliance: Several reviews indicate the company performed work without securing the required municipal building permits, a serious violation of Massachusetts State Building Code. Lack of a permit can lead to future complications, especially during a home sale, as the liability for unpermitted work falls to the homeowner.
- Unfinished Work and Completion Delays: Customers reported extreme and protracted delays in project completion, with one instance citing a job started in September only being finished in April, and another where the work was never completed at all, despite full payment being made. The property owner reportedly had to threaten legal action and BBB complaints to prompt any further work.
- Payment Issues and Financial Risk: Accounts detail paying the full amount before the majority of the work was finished, followed by communications from the contractor admitting they did not have the funds to complete the job. This suggests a significant financial risk to the customer and a violation of standard contract practices, which usually ties payments to completion milestones.
- Need for Legal Action: At least two separate customers reported being forced to pursue legal remedies, including court cases, to resolve payment disputes and the failure to complete the paid-for work.

What is Worth Choosing (Consumer Protection Focus)
For homeowners in Massachusetts, the most important takeaway from the public data regarding Patriot Roofing is a strong caution to prioritize consumer protection above all else. Based on the overwhelming and consistent negative feedback concerning licensing, permitting, and job completion, the prudent choice for any MA resident is to rigorously vet all potential contractors.
A reputable contractor should always:
Provide their Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor (HIC) registration number (required for most residential jobs over $1,000) and Construction Supervisor License (CSL) number immediately.
Have the contractor, not the homeowner, pull and be responsible for all necessary municipal building permits. This ensures the work is properly inspected and meets code.
Structure payment schedules tied to specific, completed milestones, never demanding full payment before the majority of the work has even begun or finished.
The information available on Patriot Roofing explicitly details the risks of non-compliance with these critical standards. Massachusetts law is designed to protect you; utilize the state’s resources to verify any contractor’s license status before you sign an agreement to ensure you hire a responsible, licensed, and permitted professional for your valuable home improvement project.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1DO NOT HIRE - NOT PROPERLY LICENSED!!I'll spare you the very LONG story, but essentially they lied to us about their license, and then lied to us about the building permit requirements. We found out when we went to sell our house and threatened to take them to court to finally get the building permit. They finally admitted they couldn't get one because they didn't have the proper license.Additionally, I chased them to finish the work I paid for. I finished paying them in September and they started the job, but didn't finish until April after I threatened to go to the BBB and take them to court.Basically if you want them to be honest and do the work you paid for, you need to threaten them with court. But remember, they are not properly licensed to do the work, so if something goes wrong there is nothing holding them responsible and it falls on you as the home owner - even if you sell the house it follows you.DO NOT HIRE!!!!
August 16 · Daniella SteinmetzIf I could give zero stars I would. They seemed great. Awesome communication and we’re on top of everything before they started. Kari kept calling us. Then, they began and did a tiny portion of the work. They did not even 1/3 of the roof and asked for the remainder of the money. We paid the entire amount. We then Chased them and dealt with the most ridiculous excuses from Kari about why her husband couldn’t finish the job. The excuses ranged from other jobs to prostate issues. Finally she called and said they didn’t have the money to finish it. We had paid it in full so where was our money?!? We had to hire a real company to fix their mess and finish the mess they left us with!! We had to take them to court but we have still yet to get any of our money back. The second roofer also got a permit because patriot never did!!!!
February 14 · Kara LHi BEWARE OF THESE PEOPLE . THEY TOOK OUR MONEY IN CASH NINE MONTHS AGO AND LEFT A BIG WHOLE IN THE SIDE OF OUR HOUSE. AFTER CALLING EACH WEEK THEY SAY THEY ARE GOING TO COME AND FIX THE HOLE AND NEVER SHOWED UP. WE NOW HAVE TO HIRE ANOTHER ROOFER TO FINISH THE JOB. PLUS YOU CANNOT REACH THEM BY CERTIFIED LETTER . WORSE CONSTRUCTION PEOPLE I HAVE EVER WORKED WITH OVER 35 YEARS .
